No need to worry about drawing a tag. Big Timber Outfitters has a set number of guaranteed elk tags allocated by the state of Idaho each year. These tags are specifically reserved for non-resident hunters booking through licensed outfitters like us, but they are limited, so spots fill up fast.
When you book a guided elk hunt with Big Timber, your tag is secured and waiting , no lottery, no hoping, no uncertainty, just a confirmed spot and a high-quality hunt in our exclusive area covering nearly 300 square miles of prime elk country.
Our hunts are 8 days total one day riding in, one day riding out, and six full days hunting in our controlled area, which limits the number hunters for a true backcountry experience.
Upon arrival at the trailhead, you’ll take a scenic 2–3 hour horseback ride along Big Timber Creek, deep into the heart of prime elk country. Our comfortable wall-tent camps are fully furnished with wood stoves to keep you warm after a long day in the field, and you’ll enjoy delicious home-cooked meals to keep you fueled for the hunt ahead.
With professional one-on-one guides by your side, you’ll hunt right from camp each day. You’ll have access to blinds, trails, wallows, and countless ridges, creeks, and meadows — whether you prefer to sit and wait or spot-and-stalk, you’ll be in the middle of hundreds of acres of prime backcountry elk habitat.
Big Timber Outfitters supports DIY hunters by packing you in and out on horseback, providing comfortable wall-tent camps, food, and local knowledge of the land. You hunt on your own but get a solid head start with their guidance and camp support.
For a more hands-on experience, go fully guided. You’ll have a dedicated guide, a guaranteed outfitter tag, and access to prime spots across their exclusive 300 square miles. Enjoy the same comfortable camp — plus expert help every step of the way.
Our elk hunts take place deep in Idaho’s wild country — rugged terrain, unpredictable weather, and limited to no cell service. This is a serious hunt, and the better prepared you are, the better your experience will be. A Garmin inReach device is required for all hunters. No exceptions.
