Setting Every Hunter Up for Success

At Big Timber Outfitters, we believe your hunt should be as rewarding as it is memorable. That’s why we go above and beyond to prepare every hunter. whether you’re guided or DIY, with everything you need to succeed. From detailed scouting and tailored advice on GMU conditions to personalized gear checklists, our team ensures you’re fully equipped and confident before you step into the field.

Hunting in Idaho’s GMU 29

All of our hunts take place in Game Management Unit 29, located in the rugged Salmon-Challis National Forest. This area offers ideal terrain and habitat for elk, black bear, mountain lion, and mountain goat.
We hunt a mix of timbered draws, steep ridges, and high alpine basins, accessing the backcountry by foot, horseback, or 4×4 depending on the season and species. GMU 29 offers low pressure and strong game populations, making it a prime spot for serious hunters.

Hunting Tags for Out-of-State Hunters

Big Timber Outfitters handles the allocated elk and mule deer tags for out-of-state hunters, making the process simple for you. For mountain lion, mountain goat, and bear, tags must be purchased separately, so we recommend securing those early. We’ll make sure you have the right permits for a smooth, legal hunt.

Already Got Your Huting Date?

There’s a small amount of paperwork you’ll need to complete before your hunt with Big Timber Outfitters LLC, some required by us and some by the state of Idaho. Taking care of it early helps keep your hunt stress-free and ensures everything is in order when you arrive. If you have any questions about what’s needed, we’re always here to help you get it squared away.

Game Transport & Post-Hunt Logistics

It’s our job to get you — and your harvest — safely out of the woods. Once we’ve done that, it’s your responsibility to handle meat processing and taxidermy. We do work closely with reputable local businesses that we’re happy to recommend for both services. Just ask, and we’ll point you in the right direction so you can make the most of your trophy and your meat.
